Lynda Benglis

1941 Born IN Lake Charles, La
1964 B.F.A. Newcomb Memorial College, Tulane University, New Orleans, LA
2000 Honorary Doctorate, Kansas City Art Institute, Kansas City, MO

While Lynda Benglis is best known for her sculptural work, she has mastered many mediums and materials. In 1995, Benglis collaborated with Master Printer, Stan Baden to produce twelve images which use the nineteenth century engravings based on Zuni hunting fetishes as their point of departure. The energy of the original fetishes and their position in society in connection with big game hunting rituals is re-engaged through Benglis' own very different and personal art-making rituals.

She has been a recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship award and two National Endowment for the Arts grants. Benglis has had extensive solo and group exhibitions in important institutions throughout the United States and abroad, including the Rhode Island School of Design, RI, Walker Art Center, MN, The Art Institute of Chicago, IL, Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, the Museum of Modern Art, NY, the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY and numerous others. Benglis' work are part of many collections including the Guggenheim Museum, NY, the Museum of Modern Art, NY and the Whitney Museum of American Art, NY.
